Media Release - 5 March 2014

Hertfordshire appeal for information following a spate of fuel thefts across Hemel Hempstead.

After a recent increase in the theft of fuel from vehicles in the Boxmoor and Chaluden areas we are asking Hertfordshire residents to tell us what they know about these incidents. Callers won’t be identified - it’s what you know, not who you are that matters.

"This crime endangers both the offender, the vehicle owner and their adjacent property. We would appeal to the public to give any information they have directly to the Police."

Sue Thompson, Chair of Hertfordshire Crimestoppers

It is believed that the offenders are making one or more holes in petrol tanks using a drill or screwdriver and draining the contents into a container before making off.
