Our volunteers connect with the community at the Royal Norfolk Show

Norfolk volunteer Instagram Lead Kyle Yeoh tells us about our Norfolk volunteers’ recent wonderful opportunity to engage with the local community at the Royal Norfolk Show, sharing our message of anonymous crime reporting with over a thousand visitors at the Norfolk Showground.

Kyle & AnnaKyle & AnnaDay one saw Crimestoppers being represented by Steve Mann (Director of Finance), Anna Womack (volunteer Norfolk Fearless Coordinator) and Kyle, while day two featured National Volunteering Manager Silvia Vergara alongside Anna and Kyle.

Working near the Norfolk Constabulary tent, staffed by police cadets, the team created a welcoming presence in the emergency services section. The most heartwarming part of the two days was connecting with families and children who enjoyed visiting the show. Young visitors were delighted to collect our Crimestoppers windmills and stickers, and at the same time, the team took the opportunity to share Fearless cards with teenagers, letting them know about the anonymous youth support available through our youth service, Fearless.

AnnaAnna with some Crimestoppers freebies"It was wonderful to see the children's excitement and to be able to pass on our brand identity to them," said Kyle. "While they were hopping on police cars and trying on uniforms, we were there making sure they knew about the support available to them through Fearless and Crimestoppers."

Beyond the fun interactions with children, the team had great conversations with adult visitors about our anonymous reporting service. Some were surprised to learn that Crimestoppers doesn't collect any personal information when people call – no phone numbers, no names; complete anonymity.

"Thanks to the amazing volunteers of the Norfolk committee, it was a lovely day. It was a lot of fun with the school children, and I had very interesting chats with the teachers about Fearless," said Silvia.

The enthusiasm of show visitors was evident in our successful distribution of over 2,000 promotional items, including windmills, stickers, pens, bags, and water bottles. By midday on the second day, we had almost given away everything we brought, showing just how engaged the community was throughout the event.

The Royal Norfolk Show provided an excellent platform for Crimestoppers Norfolk to connect with local families, raise awareness about our anonymous reporting service within the community, and reaffirm our commitment to keeping Norfolk safe. Together, we continue to work towards safer, stronger communities.
