The hospitality industry is built on people. Every day, hotel employees work hard to create welcoming, safe and professional environments for guests. Yet many hospitality workers, particularly women, regularly face challenges that can impact their personal safety and wellbeing.

Crimestoppers and the Institute of Hotel Security Management (IHSM) are working together to help strengthen staff safety across the hospitality sector through a new awareness campaign focused on confidence, prevention and anonymous reporting.

The campaign aims to support hotel employees by increasing awareness of potential risks, promoting practical safety advice and highlighting the importance of speaking up about concerning behaviour.

Why this matters

Violence against women and girls remains a significant issue across London and the wider UK.

Recent evidence shows that each London borough experiences an average of more than 4,000 domestic abuse incidents annually. In addition, the Metropolitan Police recorded more than 8,800 rape offences in a single year, equivalent to around 24 reports every day. Experts believe many incidents remain unreported.

Hospitality staff are often in a unique position to observe behaviour whilst travelling to and from work that may indicate harassment, stalking, abuse, exploitation or other criminal activity. By recognising the signs and knowing how to report concerns safely, staff can help protect themselves, colleagues and guests.
