Knives shatter lives in Derbyshire
We've launched a powerful new campaign in Derbyshire to tackle knife crime, urging young people and the wider community to report what they know, 100% anonymously, about those who are carrying and storing knives.

Led by Crimestoppers, as an independent charity, and our youth service Fearless, the campaign is funded by Foundation Derbyshire and supported by Derbyshire Constabulary, as part of the national Operation Sceptre initiative to reduce knife crime and keep communities safe.

What's our campaign about?
Young people, parents and the wider community are being urged to recognise the warning signs that someone might be carrying a knife, such as changes in behaviour, unexplained injuries, or sudden access to money, designer clothes or technology and to speak up if they are concerned.
Do you have information about someone who carries or stores a knife? Or know anything about any other crime? You can tell us what you know & remain 100% anonymous - guaranteed. No one will ever know you got in touch with us, we do not record phone numbers or IP addresses and you will not need to speak to the police.

During the campaign, Derbyshire Constabulary will be highlighting the campaign and Operation Sceptre at local sporting events, including football matches at Ilkeston Town, Chesterfield Town and Alfreton Town, as well as at Long Eaton Rugby Club.
Why is our campaign important?
T/Inspector Jack Williamson, from Derbyshire Constabulary, said:
“The work we do around prevention is extremely important, especially when it comes to knife crime.
“A key way we do this is by listening to our communities, spotting any signs or trends, and using this to target our work. As we highlight our year-round work as part of the national Operation Sceptre week of action, it's great to be able to showcase the impact that partnership work like this has.
"The information we get anonymously from Crimestoppers and Fearless is crucial. It helps us target our efforts to the right people and places, speak to those at risk, arrange support and stop early behaviours before an incident happens.
“We know it can feel daunting to make a report, especially if it’s against someone you are close to. These anonymous services allow you to report without the fear of any personal repercussions.
"If you know someone who is carrying a knife, or is involved in knife crime, please do use Crimestoppers' service to tell someone about it who can pass your information on to the police. As well as tackling that individual’s behaviour, it will help us build a well rounded picture of knife crime in the county.”
Are you a young person who's thinking of carrying a knife, or already does so?
If you carry a knife, your future is at risk. Young people who carry a weapon are three times more likely to be hospitalised with an injury caused by violence. ANY stab can be fatal. and the consequences are severe:
- Carrying a knife can mean four years in prison.
- Carrying a knife has consequences for the people around you.
- Carrying a knife for self-protection is not an excuse and you can still be convicted.
If you lose your life or go to prison, this can cause serious trauma for your family and friends.
If you carry a knife for protection, you are MORE LIKELY to be stabbed.
Getting into trouble with the police can affect your future. You can be stopped from travelling to another country if you have a criminal record.
Are you a parent?
Three things every parent can do:
- Spot the signs: Look out for behaviour changes, unexplained money, or injuries that don’t make sense.
- Talk to your children: discuss the dangers of knives, the law, and why it’s important to speak up.
- Speak to Crimestoppers: If you’re concerned about knife carrying, drug dealing, gang activity, or any other crime, you can report it completely anonymously.
