Would you recognise abuse?

Would you recognise abuse?

Abuse can take many forms; it isn’t always physical. Knowing what it is can help us recognise it when it happens.

The Enough campaign to help STOP violence towards women and girls encourages everybody to be part of the change. Support is available for all victims of abuse. Abuse can affect anyone and it is all harmful.

What is abuse?

  • It can be emotional, physical, sexual or financial.
  • The person committing the abuse could be a partner, ex-partner, family member, a friend, somebody at work, a community leader or member, or a stranger.
  • Abuse can happen to anyone.
  • It can take place in your home or a public place.
  • It can be in person, online or through technology.

Reporting violence and abuse

If you see a crime in action, call 999. If you have information on the perpetrator and would prefer to stay anonymous, tell our charity what you know by calling 0800 555 111 at any time or complete our secure online form on this site or via Fearless.org for young people. The police can be contacted on 101 if you are happy to reveal your identity.

Due to our guarantee of anonymity, we cannot take information from victims who need to speak directly to the police. They can also seek help from
Victim Support – who provides specialist practical and emotional support to victims and witnesses of crime on 08 08 16 89 111.

More information can be found on the government Enough campaign site.
