Tackling violence against women & girls - 3 anonymised stories
We recently launched a campaign to highlight what violence against women and girls and sexual harassment involves. We are encouraging those who see it happening to report perpetrators to our charity 100% anonymously.
Below is a small sample of crimes solved by passing information to our charity, which shows our real impact.
Please note that details of these cases have been changed to protect the identity of those involved. This is in line with our promise of total anonymity to everyone who contacts us.
Violent person charged
Seeing the serious consequences of domestic abuse motivated our caller to inform us of direct threats to kill a woman. Our information led to the arrest and charge of her partner and appropriate support for the woman and her young child.
Victim safeguarded from violent sex offender
A convicted sexual predator, who had been released from prison under strict bail conditions, was spotted at the address of a known vulnerable individual. Police later thanked Crimestoppers, as our tip-off allowed them to intervene early, ensuring the vulnerable person was safeguarded and that the offender was swiftly removed from the address and returned to jail.
Sex attacker stopped
An appeal about the violent sexual assault of a woman prompted our caller to get in touch. They told us about one of her attackers – no name, but where they worked. This small detail helped the police find and arrest the man.
Crimestoppers guarantees complete anonymity, meaning that people who call us at any time on 0800 555 111 or contact us online can pass on what they know without giving any personal details.
Computer IP addresses are never traced. Telephone calls are never recorded, there is no caller line display and no 1471 facility.
