Help make Widnes safer

Keep Widnes safe campaign

We have launched a new initiative in Widnes, to help keep people safer and to reduce serious crime.

Last year, our charity received over 4,500 pieces of information about crime in Cheshire, which is a record and up 30% on the previous year.

We have run several local campaigns this year across Cheshire to raise awareness of our anonymous reporting service and to encourage residents to provide information on crimes such as drug dealing, knife crime, criminal gangs, anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse and drink and drug driving.

During this campaign, targeted social media activity and leaflet drops will take place. Young people will be reached using our charity’s Fearless.org youth brand and residents will be engaged with to increase reporting and to give the community a powerful voice.

Information from the community is vital in reducing crime in the area, with Crimestoppers being a quick and safe way to do that 100% anonymously.

“Over the last year, we have seen a very significant increase in reports involving Cheshire, which has led to seizures of drugs and weapons, arrests and vulnerable adults and children safeguarded.

“Every piece of information given to Crimestoppers is vital in building the intelligence picture of those who are involved in criminal activity and in helping to reduce crime and save lives.

“In 36 years, we have never revealed the identity of anyone who has contacted us by phone or online - you will always remain anonymous."

Gary Murray, Crimestoppers North West Regional Manager
