Hampshire: Increase in reports about serious organised crime behind campaign to tackle issue
Latest figures to March this year show a 22% rise in reports about weapons across Hampshire when compared to the 12 months before.
Our charity is independent of the police and we guarantee complete anonymity to over 2,000 people who contact our national Contact Centre every day.
Reports given to Crimestoppers about drug trafficking and supply increased by 13% and there was a 3% increase in information about drug manufacture and cultivation.
We are reminding people that we are here for everyone to pass on concerns and information about criminals operating locally, who typically run County Lines drug dealing networks, cannabis farms and other illegal enterprises, which brings serious harm to communities. They are often involved in several illegal activities, with each crime feeding off the other.
Vulnerable people, including children, are recruited and exploited to sell drugs, move money, carry weapons and use violence.
“We all have an important role to play in helping to keep our communities safe from crime gangs and drug dealing.
“The key to making our local communities safer places to live and work is to prevent criminals from profiting off the pain and misery they cause. This can be done by passing on information completely anonymously to Crimestoppers or Fearless.org for young people, so that law enforcement can take action.“Detailed anonymous community intelligence that Crimestoppers and Fearless receives and passes on, helps disrupt gang activity and keeps our streets and communities safe.
“Remember, we guarantee you’ll stay 100% anonymous and I encourage anyone with information to contact our charity. We will never know who you are because of our anonymity guarantee, but you will have made Hampshire safer for everyone.”
Beth Simpson, Crimestoppers Regional Manager
