Appeal following sexual assaults in Newcastle - reward available to identify man responsible

We are offering a reward to help identify a person responsible for several sexual assaults on women in Newcastle.

The first incident took place on Sunday 25 June at 8pm as a woman walked along Howard Street when a man on a bike sexually assaulted her as he cycled past. Later that evening, at around 8.40pm, another female who was running on Newington Road was physically assaulted in a similar manner.

A CCTV image of a man who is wanted in connection with this investigation has been issued.

“Our charity believes everyone has the right to feel safe, whether they’re at home, at work or out and about in the community. It’s important that whoever is responsible is found.

“This type of behaviour can escalate if not challenged, so it’s urgent that anyone who knows or suspects who was involved steps forward and tells our charity. You’ll stay completely anonymous.

“Our charity knows it can be difficult to give information about crime, especially if it’s about someone close to you or in your wider circle of friends and associates. If you have suspicions, and don’t want to give your personal details, Crimestoppers is here to help. We’ve been taking crime information – whilst ensuring the person who contacts us is never identified – since the late 1980s.

“When you contact our charity, we never ask for your personal details. Visit our website and complete an easy to use anonymous form or, if you prefer to chat, call our national Contact Centre and talk to one of our specially-trained staff on freephone number 0800 555 111. Your information could make all the difference.”
Fleur Brown, Crimestoppers North East Regional Manager
