Crimestoppers’ response to sentencing of Thomas Cashman for murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel

The murder of a 9-year-old schoolgirl from Liverpool during the summer of 2022 sent shockwaves across Liverpool and beyond.

Olivia Pratt-Korbel was shot in her home in Dovecot, Liverpool, whilst her mother – who tried to shield her – was injured during the shooting spree.

In the aftermath of the tragic murder, Crimestoppers offered a reward of up to £200,000 for information leading to a conviction.

This reward was made available thanks to contributions made by our charity’s Chair, Lord Ashcroft, and a private, anonymous donor.

Thomas Cashman has been found guilty of Olivia’s murder, and of the wounding with intent of Olivia’s mother, Cheryl Korbel. He has been jailed for life, with a minimum term of 42 years.

Below is our charity’s response to the sentencing:

“The jailing of Thomas Cashman is a positive outcome to an incredibly sad and tragic case. No one should experience such shocking levels of violence in their home – especially a child with her mother nearby.

“The response from the people of Liverpool to our charity’s appeal for anonymous information has been incredibly encouraging and we’d like to thank everyone who contacted us – or the police directly – for their contribution.

“Due to our promise of anonymity, Crimestoppers cannot comment directly on the details of what we’ve passed on to the police – or whether or not the record reward will be paid out. However, this case shows that we can all play our part in tackling violence and helping to make our communities safe.”
