What would you do?
Protect children and families through prevention and intervention.
In the inner city area of Bristol, street crimes involving children as young nine years old were causing a major concern within the community.
These children were being approached and offered cash to deliver illegal drugs on behalf of criminals. Many children, parents and carers could identify the children involved but refused to go to the police.
Doing the right thing
We devised a strategy to advise the children, parents and carers on how to make informed choices when faced with difficult decisions. By encouraging them to do the right thing at the right time, we have been able to make a difference to their community.
How we do it
We partnered with Avon & Somerset Police and commissioned youth-focused social enterprise Unique Voice to run a programme in schools across the area. Using drama, song and dance workshops, the group engaged with difficult issues raised by school pupils in a project called ‘What Would You Do?’
Schools involved in the project include: May Park Primary, Hareclive Academy, Oasis Academy Connaught, Christ the King Catholic Primary, Frome Vale Academy, Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy, Bannerman Road Community Academy.
“The ‘What Would You Do?’ showcase last year was inspirational. I’m very supportive of efforts to expand the project and give more young people the opportunity to benefit from being involved.”

How you can help
With your contribution, we can continue to run this annual project to make a positive impact on more children, more families and more communities. There is potential to roll out this type of community action across other areas of the country for greater intervention and crime prevention.
