Domestic abuse

Help us put an end to domestic violence.

Every week in England and Wales up to two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner.

A domestic abuse call is made every 30 seconds, making it one of the ‘high volume’ priority crimes in the UK.

People often assume that domestic abuse affects women alone. The truth is that men also fall victim to this serious crime but are far less likely to come forward. Children are not exempt either. Statistics show nearly 15% of under 18s have lived with domestic violence at some point.

Fighting back against domestic violence

One of the key tenets of our work is helping to end domestic abuse. In recent years, there has been a rise in reporting, partly due to more people coming forward. While increased reporting is a step in the right direction, we must work to make sure that everyone is coming forward until domestic abuse is stopped for good.

How we do it

Our work focuses on:

  • raising awareness of the signs of abuse
  • educating on how and when to report it
  • increasing early identification and intervention.

We received a call from a Stopper about a violent attack where a pregnant woman was kicked and punched in the stomach, resulting in the death of her unborn baby. After passing this information onto the police the attacker was successfully arrested and convicted.
