Crimestoppers says ‘thank you’ to the public after rise in information-sharing over the festive period
Thank you to all those who shared vital information over Christmas and the New Year.
Whilst our back-office staff enjoyed a break between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Crimestoppers’ Contact Centre staff were busier than ever.

There might have been a time, decades ago, when some people would have suggested closing our Contact Centre on certain days over the festive season, but latest figures demonstrate that people still need our unique service.
Safeguarding and domestic abuse
For example, on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, we passed on hundreds of reports about vulnerability and safeguarding, including dozens of suspected domestic abuse cases.
Those who spoke up anonymously to Crimestoppers might have kept quiet if their only route was to dial 999 or 101, but with the safety net of anonymity, they telephoned our charity or completed online forms here on our website to share their crime concerns.
People also chose to contact Crimestoppers anonymously to speak up about firearms, knives and other weapons. We also noticed numerous reports about drink/drug driving (over 200 on New Year’s Eve alone).
Urgent to Control Rooms
Vitally, on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, our specially trained staff passed on the most urgent reports direct to police control rooms – typically one report every 30 minutes.
Speaking up about crime is difficult and we are proud that so many people trusted Crimestoppers over the holiday period.

“Whilst many of us enjoyed a rest, our charity’s Contact Centre staff were available around the clock, taking vital crime information from people who stayed completely anonymous.
“I’d like to thank everyone who bravely stepped forward to pass on what they know about crime during the holiday season, and also to our charity’s staff who know first-hand about the power of anonymous crime information in helping to keep people and communities safe.”
