The collision

On 22nd December 2024, 15-year-old Z was riding his bicycle along Bracknell Avenue, Kirkby. He had cycled from the direction of Valley Road and Bewley Drive before turning right onto Bracknell Avenue.

As Z cycled past Kirkby High School at about 6.30 pm, he was struck by a vehicle that was travelling towards him at high speed. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and is believed to have turned left onto Bewley Drive and towards Whitefield Drive.  A number plate - OV70 OVG - was left at the scene following the collision.

Z had suffered multiple head, limb and chest injuries. Unfortunately, such was the extent of the injuries to Z’s right leg, it was necessary for an amputation to be performed and Z is now confined to a wheelchair.

Z’s mother Maria has recently described the impact and utter devastation of the results of the collision to both Z and the wider family.

Z spends a lot of time with his grandmother, who has given an interview to Crimewatch Live, describing the events and the impact on the whole family.

The vehicle suspected to have been involved

Earlier in December 2024, a dark Grey Honda Civic was stolen from Johnsons Skoda, Challenge Way, Wigan, Greater Manchester.

On 28th December, 6 days after Z was hit, police officers in Greater Manchester sighted a grey Honda Civic in the Wigan area. The car had damage to the bonnet and windscreen which was consistent with having been involved in the collision in which Z was injured. The car was displaying the number plate OV70 OVG.

There was a brief pursuit of the vehicle. A short time later, during the early hours of 29th December, a burnt-out Honda Civic was discovered near to the location of the pursuit on Park Road, Billinge, Greater Manchester. This vehicle was later confirmed as being stolen from Johnsons Skoda.

The police are focussing on where the vehicle was pre & post collision. Do you remember seeing a vehicle parked up with damage? Do you remember seeing a vehicle without a front number plate? Has the offender confided in anyone? Do you have any information regarding the driver/occupants of the Honda Civic?
