Victim Joshua McleanVictim Joshua Mclean

Joshua McLean, 31, died in Weavers Fields, Bethnal Green, on the evening of Tuesday, 6 August 2024. A year on from his death, detectives investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses.

Joshua was last seen walking with friends along Bethnal Green Road. An hour later, he was found by the London Ambulance Service with a gunshot wound to the chest in Weavers Fields, E2, at 8:27pm.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Joshua sadly died at the scene.

Detectives leading the investigation are asking anyone who was around the 'jungle' area of Weavers Fields on Tuesday, 6 August, or leaving Bethnal Green tube station and saw anything suspicious to speak up. It is believed that there are people in the community and area who know who killed Joshua and haven't come forward - so any information shared could be crucial.

As a charity, independent of the police, we at Crimestoppers are supporting this investigation by offering a reward for information we exclusively receive that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Joshua McLean.

Give information anonymously

“Although a year has passed since the senseless murder of Joshua McLean, the impact of the day is fresh for his heartbroken family.

“We remain committed to finding those involved in his death, and will be distributing leaflets in the local area to encourage anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency."

Detective Inspector Jonny Newell, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command

"We know there were people in and around the area at the time of the shooting who may have seen or heard something crucial. Despite repeated appeals, we believe fear of reprisals has prevented witnesses from coming forward.

"The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 to encourage anyone with information to speak up anonymously. You won’t be asked for your name, and we can’t trace your call or identify your telephone number or IP address if you contact us via our website.

"Joshua’s family are devastated and deserve answers. Your information could make all the difference.”
