Asset confiscation is when money and/or high value items are removed from people who have been convicted of a crime. Doing this helps to disrupt criminal activity by:

  • Stopping criminals from using the profits of one criminal operation to fund the next
  • Negatively affecting the reputation of individual criminals and crime networks so that their partners trust them less
  • Providing new leads and identifying new suspects
  • Seizing money made off the back of criminal activity
