Merton Council and our youth service unite to tackle crime

Merton Council and Fearless campaign

In a continued effort to keep young people in Merton safe, the Council’s Community Safety Partnership for the fourth year, is working alongside Crimestoppers and our youth service Fearless, to support young people in speaking up about crime.

In a four-week campaign, young people are encouraged to speak up with any information they have about criminal activity completely anonymously, to help protect their community while ensuring their identity is safeguarded.

They can safely share information on crimes such as violence, drug dealing, and weapons without fear of being identified. The platform is a powerful tool for those who want to make a difference but might feel reluctant about going to the police directly.

Fearless provides non-judgemental information and advice about crime and offers a vital, alternative way for those worried about speaking directly to the police to pass on what they know without giving any of their own personal details.

This year’s campaign will feature a targeted social media campaign for Merton’s young people. There will also be a focus on raising awareness about the anonymous reporting service in schools, youth groups, and with professionals who work closely with young people.

"We’re incredibly proud to continue our partnership with Merton through our Fearless initiative. Young people often see or hear about crime, but many feel unsure or scared about what to do with that information.

“Fearless.org allows them to share what they know completely anonymously, without fear of repercussions. It’s about giving young people the power to make a difference in their community, safely and responsibly. Together with partners in Merton, we’re committed to creating a space where young voices can be heard, and where their actions can help build a safer future for everyone.

“The partnership underscores the ongoing commitment of both Merton and Crimestoppers to ensure that Merton remains a safe and welcoming place for young people and the wider community. We urge young people to speak up through Fearless and make a positive impact in their neighbourhood."

“Although Merton is one of London’s safest boroughs, fear of crime remains a concern among young people. We hope that the Fearless campaign and the guarantee of anonymity will give young people the reassurance they need to come forward and share any information they have about crime. This will help to keep the borough a safe place for them and their peers.”
