Drink and drug driving - true Crimestoppers stories anonymised

Drink and drug driving

We recently launched our drink and drug driving campaign, to warn that intoxicated drivers are putting lives at risk and to remind people that information can be given anonymously to our charity about those who drug and drink drive.

Below is a small sample of crimes solved by passing information to us, which shows the real impact of doing this.

Please note that details of these cases have been changed to protect the identity of those involved.

Drink and disqualified driver arrested

Crimestoppers received information on a person driving whilst uninsured and without a driving licence. Checks showed that the driver was disqualified from driving for previous driving offences, and the driver also gave false details at first until checks revealed their true identity. The driver was arrested for driving whilst disqualified, obstructing the police and drink driving.

Regular drug driver arrested

Crimestoppers received information on a person who regularly drove their vehicle every morning whilst under the influence of drugs. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver was tested for drugs through a saliva test which resulted in a positive indication for cannabis. When searched, they were found to be in possession of a small white bag believed to be cocaine and a small amount of cannabis. The driver was arrested.

Violent drug offender arrested and charged

A man with a history of using guns and knives – along with drug dealing and dangerous driving – was reported to us, with a specific address given. Police confirmed that he was wanted. He was then arrested and charged.
