Public response to riots sparks a surge in anonymous tip-offs

Man with clenched fist

Crimestoppers has passed on over 1,000 pieces of information relating to rioters since the violence and unrest began in the wake of the Southport stabbings.

We’ve been given the names and addresses of many of those who were involved in the criminal damage, violence and intimidation and have passed these on to the relevant police forces.

In the first few days after the riots, calls and online contacts via our website rocketed by over 50%.

Crimestoppers is not part of the police. We take crime information here on our website or by calling 0800 555 111 and speaking to one of our specially trained Contact Centre staff. We’ll pass on what you tell us.

We never ask for your personal details, only what you know. With Crimestoppers, this means no police, no courts, no witness statements.

You can help your community stay safe by using our charity’s guarantee of complete anonymity.

If you know something about crime but don’t want to contact the police directly, then Crimestoppers is here to help.

And remember that our 24/7 team are here to take your information, whether it’s online via our website or by calling 0800 555 111. You’ll be keeping people and communities safe.

“Thank you to all those who have come forward anonymously.

“Each and every day, people trust Crimestoppers to pass on what they know about crime. It’s encouraging that during these challenging times, our charity is here for everyone who needs us.”
