Hampshire burglaries

Man breaking into house

We've launched a new campaign across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to help prevent and reduce burglaries.

In 2023/2024, there were 2,814 residential burglary crimes recorded by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

We want to raise awareness of how homeowners and tenants - particularly the vulnerable in local communities - can protect their property by speaking up anonymously if they know of a planned break-in, have witnessed suspicious activity or know who is selling stolen property.

Tell us what you know - call free on 0800 555 111 or fill in our online form, here on our website:

Burglary is not a victimless crime. It’s incredibly traumatic to lose valuables and important personal items you need from your home – and the emotional shock of having your property invaded can also be deeply upsetting.

Criminal gangs can target the most vulnerable in communities and our campaign aims to gather information about who's behind house burglaries, thefts from sheds and garages or keyless car thefts.

If you have any information about these people, or those who are planning burglaries or selling stolen items such as power tools and jewellery, you can tell us what you know.

  1. Always keep your house and garage doors locked.
  2. Fit secure locks to your shed.
  3. Fit quality locks to bikes in garages and sheds, and also secure them to the floor.
  4. Fit window locks.
  5. Put indoor lights on a timer.

We guarantee you’ll remain 100% anonymous. Always.

When you contact us, we won’t judge or ask for any personal details. All we want to know is what you know. That means: No police contact. No witness statements. No courts.

  • Name and details of anyone involved in burglaries in your area.
  • Planned break-ins - where and when?
  • Gangs who target vulnerable victims.
  • Who's selling stolen goods, and where?
  • People who steal car keys from homes, and then their cars.
  • The motives of those who carry out thefts and use weapons.
  • Unexplained wealth on your street.
  • If you see lots of visitors to a neighbour’s house at unusual times.

  • Always keep your house and garage doors locked.
  • Fit secure locks to your shed.
  • Fit quality locks to bikes in garages and sheds, and also secure them to the floor.
  • Fit window locks.
  • Put indoor lights on a timer.
  • Fit external lights on a timer or sensor.
  • Install a video doorbell.
  • Remove all keys from quadbikes and other farm vehicles and keep outbuildings locked.
  • Report suspicious vehicles or individuals to the police.

Help keep your and your neigbours’ homes safe by reporting what you know to Crimestoppers: it’s fast, simple, and anonymous.

In an emergency, or if you see a burglary taking place, call the police on 999 or 101.

With Crimestoppers, personal details are never asked for or stored thanks to our promise of total anonymity, and we're also completely independent of the police.

Please note: computer IP addresses are never traced, and no-one will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers. For telephone calls, there is no caller line display, no 1471 facility and calls have never been traced.

  • If you're a victim of burglary, Victim Support can help. They say: "Some people blame themselves if they forgot to secure a window or door, or if they were tricked by the burglar, but it’s important to remember that it’s not your fault."
