Pro-Social Summer
Being pro-social just means thinking about how your actions affect other people - and choosing to do things that help, not harm.
It’s about making your community a better place for everyone… including you.
You don’t have to do anything huge. Even small actions show respect and make a big difference.
What Does That Look Like?
- Volunteering or getting involved in things like the Scottish Youth Parliament
- Not shouting or swearing in the street, especially around people who don’t know you
- Keeping parks tidy and not wrecking play equipment - so everyone can enjoy them
- At the beach? No drinking or fighting - leave only your footprints, not your rubbish
- On the bus? Use earphones - not everyone wants to hear your music (however good it is!)
- Don’t abuse people doing their jobs - they’re just trying to help
- NEVER start fires or cause damage - it’s seriously dangerous and can ruin lives
What’s It All About?
It comes down to one word: RESPECT
Respect for others, for the community and for yourself.
Even if you don’t mean to upset anyone, your actions can still have consequences.
Want less anti-social behaviour around you?
Here's how you can help change things:
Think about how your choices affect other people and try to keep it positive.
Tell your local Councillor or MSP what your area needs - email them or go to a drop-in surgery.
Chat to your MSYP or even stand for election yourself!
Seen stuff like vandalism, drunk or threatening behaviour or loud noise?
You can report it to your local council or the police:
Know who’s causing real harm (fires, violence, serious damage)?
Speak up 100% anonymously - no one ever will know the information came from you
Do something positive this summer
Here are some ideas to stay safe, get involved and have fun:
- Stay safe outdoors – Scottish Fire & Rescue Service
- The facts - You vs. Train
- Join a beach or litter clean – Scottish Wildlife Trust
- Volunteer – Volunteer Scotland
- Find activities near you – Young Scot
You’ve got a voice. You’ve got the power to make a difference.
So why not be part of something positive?
