Fearless in Wales launches new knife crime campaign

Fearless is proud to launch three new short films raising awareness of the dangers of carrying a knife.

The films encourage young people to use their voices to make a positive difference in their communities. They highlight how anonymous reporting can be a safe and trusted way to share information about crime, helping to prevent violence before it happens.

By speaking up and sharing what they know, young people can play an important role in keeping themselves, their friends, and their communities safe.

Hayley Fry, the National Manager for Crimestoppers in Wales, said:

“Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, Fearless has been able to work with young people from across Wales to better understand their concerns and experiences around knife crime. Their insights helped shape the development of three powerful short films that highlight the real harms and consequences of carrying a knife.

“We hope these films encourage young people to think twice about carrying a knife and to recognise the impact it can have on individuals, families and communities.

“There may be young people who know someone is carrying a knife but feel frightened, uncertain or worried about what might happen if they speak up. We want them to know that they can share information anonymously, without giving their name or putting themselves at risk.

“Even a small piece of information could prevent a young person from being seriously harmed and spare another family the heartbreak that knife crime can cause.”

What's this campaign about?

Our Fearless campaign is using these short films help young people recognise the potentially life-saving importance of sharing information about knife crime.

Here at Fearless.org, we give young people aged 11 to 25 a completely anonymous way to speak up, either by phone, on 0800 555 111 or online, right here on our website; a chance to take action, use their voice and help keep their community safe.

We’re completely independent of the police and we never ask for a person’s name, contact information or any details that could identify them. We can’t trace phone calls or online reports, and information submitted through Fearless.org is passed on without revealing who provided it.

Do you have information about knife crime, or any other crime? You can tell us what you know and you’ll be 100% anonymous – and that’s guaranteed.

We at Crimestoppers and Fearless commissioned new national YouGov research, which revealed that anonymity can make a significant difference. 31% of young people asked said that they would be very likely to report information about knife crime directly to the police. But when they were offered an anonymous way to speak up - like giving information to Fearless - this figure rose to 51%.

So, our campaign is aiming to close that awareness gap and reassure young people that, with Fearless, they have a safe way to act on what they know.
