Surge in crime reports following Gloucester display of anti-violence monument

The Bee

The anti-violence Bee Monument is the first British sculpture to be created entirely from thousands of firearms, knives and weapons.

Whilst it was created for Manchester, it has been touring the country - including Gloucester.

The dramatic-looking sculpture was displayed in front of Gloucester Cathedral across a weekend in February with the aim of encouraging people to start a conversion about violent crime.

Latest figures show that during the period that The Bee was on show in the city, Crimestoppers received 38% more reports compared to the same weekend the previous year.

Violent crime is a major concern and organisations are findings new ways to engage with young people and the wider public about the issue.

The Bee Monument is the creation of the British Ironwork Centre. Its arrival in Gloucester generated a huge amount of publicity and was covered by BBC Radio Gloucestershire, BBC Points West, BBC Midlands, and ITV West Country amongst others.

We would like to thank everyone in Gloucester who continues to trust us. We don’t know who you are, but your information will have made a difference.
