A number of recent media stories have identified how organisations like the NHS are failing to value and protect whistleblowers.

The Times (paywall) reports that more than 100 allegations of medical negligence at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton are being investigated by Sussex Police and officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The investigations relate to general surgery and neurosurgery departments during the years 2015 and 2021.

The Trust has denied allegations of a cover-up. Meanwhile, the Chief Executive has admitted that not all staff feel able to raise concerns.

It follows a BBC Newsnight story where whistleblowers have referred to a ‘Mafia-like’ management culture.
