Crimestoppers have launched a campaign this month (November 2013) to tackle the rise of Asian gold theft across London, coinciding with the festivals of Diwali and Eid.
It is at this time of year that families remove jewellery that they have safely locked away and bring it out to wear at numerous celebrations, so it has become common practice for Asian properties to be targeted whilst families are attending events away from the home.
The price of gold has increased sevenfold in the last five years, making gold jewellery a serious target for thieves. Gold is also particularly tempting due to the speed and anonymity in which it can be exchanged for large sums of cash.
We would ask anyone who has information on those either stealing gold or handling the stolen goods to please contact Crimestoppers anonymously with information on 0800 555 111 or via our Anonymous Online Form. We guarantee to protect the anonymity of anyone who does get in touch.
