Our youth brand Fearless, partnered with the not-for-profit drama company, Stepladder to help empower the young people of Derbyshire in the fight against crime. The company is formed from entrepreneurial Drama Students, having understood the content of Fearless, to continue delivering the message to their peers.
Stepladder is using inventive ways of spreading the Fearless message in the East Midlands by delivering bespoke, facilitated drama workshops for young people.
The overarching theme is around what Fearless is, how it can help and how to contact them. One of the workshops ‘One Can’t Hurt, Can It?’ deals with the issue of drugs and discusses the broader issues of trust, status, doing the right thing and where young people can go for help.

To date, Stepladder has engaged with around 1300 young people in performances at schools, colleges and young people’s skills fairs. A street dance routine was even created for a local arts festival.
Over the last six months alone there has been a 26 per cent increase in views to the Fearless website compared to the same period last year. This proves the effectiveness of this approach which resulted from funding provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Alan Charles who was keen to bring Fearless to the county.
Derbyshire Committee’s Fearless Lead, Gordon Savage, explains “We are really grateful to the Derbyshire PCC, Alan Charles, for the funding that he has provided. We wanted to make sure that this money was used to best effect - getting the message of Fearless across to the young people of Derbyshire in a memorable, but cost-effective way. Stepladder has been a great solution to this, they have involved us every step of the way, making sure that the important messages aren’t diluted”.
