The Environment Agency has worked in partnership with Crimestoppers since 2011 to tackle waste crime.
We regulate the disposal, management and transfer of waste to protect public health and the environment. The main types of waste crime we deal with are: illegal waste sites; illegal waste exports; large scale dumping and the deliberate mis-description of waste.
Waste crime can cause serious pollution to the environment and put communities at risk – for example toxic fumes from illegally burnt materials can threaten air quality. It can also harm the economy, taking profits away from legitimate businesses and damaging their reputation.
The Environment Agency has a specialist crime team using intelligence to track and prosecute organised crime groups involved in environmental crime.
If you see waste crime, report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
